first day of spring

how to celebrate the cat curls herself in the sun outside someone places a call
today everything is marvelous the pigeons
their grubby pink feet the droning of some leaf blower
somewhere everywhere

everything is So Green at the park as if for the first time i walk
on the bottom lip of the lake which is an open mouth
without trying i end up in someone’s prom photos
in the background the city the open mouth an especially tiny me

here i imagine you walking the footprints you’d leave by this i mean
i imagine the earth taking note of you like a photo
a guestbook is it selfish? that i want it to remember you especially
the force you put into each step your direction
even as the dirt grows older older still?
